UP TO 10X THE LIFE OF BRONZE BUSHINGS
THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING
We have said for many years that Vesconite bushings last up to ten times longer than bronze. But, since the proof is in the pudding, we have conducted in-house tests to prove this. We have found that Vesconite outperforms bronze, particularly when bronze is ungreased.
Even when bronze is greased, Vesconite without greasing gives much better results than bronze with grease. Yes, Vesconite with no grease lasts longer than bronze with grease.
LONG LASTING IN IN-HOUSE TESTS
TESTING BRONZE WITH GREASE
With greasing in our test, bronze performs well with continuous use. But only for three hours of operation.
At three hours, the bronze coefficient of friction increases significantly, and grease needs to be reapplied.
With greased bronze bearings, friction forces become significant with time and wear is pronounced.
TESTING BRONZE WITHOUT GREASE
In in-house testing with no grease, the co-efficient of friction of the bronze increases dramatically until one hour has passed. After five hours of continuous use, bronze fails.
Our bronze test samples also show considerable wear and deformation.
THE ISSUE OF GREASING
Vesconite has a largely steady co-efficient of friction when it is ungreased.
A single application of grease reduces Vesconite’s coefficient of friction and increases its life. Again the coefficient of friction, at this lower level, is largely steady.
Since Vesconite is internally lubricated, unlike bronze, it does not need additional greasing in most applications. This saves on time, labour and greasing costs.
Self-lubrication also makes Vesconite bearing materials suitable for outdoor environments in which greasing is irregular or where grease is quickly washed off.
Vesconite bearing materials are also suited to oscillating applications, such as grabs, where the grease may not be spread if the oscillations are minimal.
LONG LASTING IN CLIENT TESTS
Want more information on Vesconite’s longevity in independent tests? In one client test, Vesconite showed no appreciable wear in test conditions.
In another client test, Vesconite showed 35% less wear when compared to phosphor bronze.
