A popular tech enthusiast and YouTuber, Ray Juntanamalaga, known as Ray J, installed Vesconite Bearings’ self-lubricating self-aligning Vesconite Superlube bushings on his Prusa Core One 3D printer five months ago and reports that the bushings are performing well.
He noted in June that the print quality was good and reiterated in November that the system continued to perform reliably without any issues.
In his video titled “Prusa Core One – Mods & Upgrades”, he walks viewers through various upgrades he has made to the printer, including the replacement of standard 3D printer bearings with Vesconite Bearings’ bushings.
While the installation required some effort ( including pressing out the original bearings and fitting in the new ones), the potential benefits are worth it, Ray J noted.
In the video, Ray J demonstrated how the Vesconite Superlube bushings are self-aligning, allowing for better accommodation of misalignment during operation.
“They’re super quiet,” he said, while manually moving the bushings on the rails.
Vesconite Superlube bushings are made from Vesconite Bearings’ lowest-friction bearing material, which is self-lubricating and designed for long life in dry-running applications. These characteristics make them particularly suited to 3D printers, where low friction and smooth linear motion are critical to print accuracy and reduced noise.
This upgrade is not Ray J’s first encounter with Vesconite bushings. He previously used 8 mm versions in his Prusa MK3S printer and ran them for over two years with excellent results.
“They work really well,” he says of the MK3S experience, which inspired his decision to fit Vesconite Superlube parts on his new Prusa Core One 3D printer.
“I don’t have to lubricate at all. All I do is just wipe the rails every now and then if they get a bit dusty,” he noted on his channel where he shares creative electronics projects, experiments, and DIY builds with his 8,400 subscribers.
