Vesconite bushes do not swell in water
Vesconite bushes can be designed and machined to accurate tolerances and close clearances with the confidence that there will be no change in size dependant on water swell or thermal expansion.
Water swell
Vesconite has a
water swell of 0.07% - this compared to nylon with a 3% swell.
Generally manufacturers quote water absorption and swell figures for samples exposed to water for 24 hours. This is not meaningful to the long term behavior of these materials, since only a small fraction of moisture absorption takes place within 24 hours. Many months may be required for full saturation.
Vesconite has a saturated swell of 0.07% which can be ignored for most practical applications.
Thermal expansion
Vesconite has a
lower thermal expansion rate than most synthetic materials.
The thermal expansion factor of Vesconite is only 2.5 times that of bronze, while nylon is 5 times greater and UHMWPE is 10 times greater.
