Bateman filters are used for separating gold from the gold bearing solution.
This is a relatively slow turning application operating at ± 0,33 RPM.
The
bronze shell was previously lined with white metal which tended to damage and
wear the shaft. As a result the shaft had to be remachined and a new white metal
casting made at considerable cost. The life of the original bushes ranged from
18 months to 2 years.
The filter trunnions were relined with Vesconite plates. After six months no wear was visible on the Vesconite lining. The life expectancy of the bush is now 5 to 7 years.
A cost saving is realised because the bronze shells no longer had to be recast with white metal, but simply relined with Vesconite plate, a much more economical and easier operation.
