Peripheral Grinder Bush
Peripheral
grinders are used to sharpen steel bits on rock drills. Many mines still use
this system although others use exchangeable drill bits.
This
application receives no lubrication. A great deal of grit and dust gets into the
bush, causing wear. Phosphor bronze bushes (OD 70 mm x ID 50 mm - 80 mm long)(OD
2.8" x ID 2" - 3.2" long) were not
giving a satisfactory wear life so they were replaced with Vesconite.
Vesconite, not affected by lack of greasing or
grit and dust, gives much longer life than the phosphor bronze. The Vesconite
bushes have been fitted for two years without any problems being experienced.
