Vesconite Rudder Bearings
Managed by a company in Hong Kong for Norwegian owners, this vessel experienced rudder bearing problems while docked in The Netherlands during the winter of 2000. The previous rudder bearings had a large clearance to allow for swelling of the material in water of about 4 mm. This of course reduced bearing and shaft life considerably. By fitting Vesconite, the clearance between the shaft and the inside diameter of the bearing reduced dramatically. Updated Oct 10 2002 |
