- Lowest friction and
wear
- Easy to machine and
install

Despite dedicated lubrication, bronze bearings
"picked up" and operation was noisy with excessive wear during initial 24 hour
tests on four 1 million tons per month underground jaw crushers. Because the
oscillation was so slight, the lubrication did not spread sufficiently,
resulting in high bronze wear.
Self-lubricating Vesconite was put through a stringent 3 week evaluation as
the mine production depended on the crushers operating successfully even
though grease did not spread across the whole bearing surface.
-
Operation was quiet
-
No wear on the bush
-
No shaft wear
After more than 12 months of operation
underground, the Vesconite bearings are still performing, with the following
advantages:
-
Ease of installation - By freezing Vesconite
with dry ice, installation does not require heavy equipment, even 1250 m
(4100') underground.
-
Ease of removal (if required) without heavy
equipment. Instead of machining out the bronze, Vesconite can be removed by
freezing or easy destructive methods.
-
The slightly larger running clearance and
softer material than bronze means Vesconite can operate with a slight
housing misalignment without line boring.
-
Vesconite is stocked in the large bearing
sizes required for the application.
-
Vesconite performs even if lubrication is
temporarily suspended.
